Commercial Marine was established in 1989 in Jeffrey’s Bay on the southeastern Cape coast of South Africa, the companies main goal at that stage was to manufacture squid jigging lures for the flourishing calamari industry.
From humble beginnings working from a small factory through exhaustive research and development the chokka jig as it is affectionately called by local fisherman was born. Currently 90% of all the calamari caught off the Eastern Cape Coast is caught using a chokka jig manufactured by Commercial Marine. Being totally committed to the commercial fishing industry a retail branch was established in Jeffrey’s Bay in 1991.
In 1995 Commercial Marine Port Elizabeth was established This branch although initially established as retail outlet only has grown into our main branch from where our wholesale division is run. Commercial Marine wholesale serves clients on a national level distributing various types of marine related products these range from marine hardware to marine electronic systems. As the commercial fishing industry developed and grew Commercial Marines continuous endeavor to serve its client base led to the development of the first SAMSA approved life raft service station to be constructed in the Eastern Cape. We currently service RFD, Beaufort, Dunlop and Eurovinil liferafts.
With the building of Port St Francis an exclusive marina Commercial Marine St Francis Bay was established in 1998. This retail outlet is situated in the center of the exclusive resort town of St Francis Bay where the tourist and local boat building industry are growing at a phenomenal rate.
The continuous growth of Commercial Marine can be attributed to the progressive approach of the management team and the dedication and loyalty of their staff. In the future we look forward to further expansion into new ventures.
